These Dy'on Hunter reins are a rubber version on a slim 1/2" strap, from the collection the brand calls both the US Collection and the Hunter Collection. They are aimed at the rider who already uses a bridle from that line and wants a rein whose finish goes with it. Supple and slim is how Dy'on puts it. At Maddelin the rein is offered in Cob and in Full, in the colours Black and Brown.
About these reins
In the Hunter line this is the rubber version on the slimmer of the two widths the brand works in. Dy'on builds its reins in 1/2" and in 5/8": the slim strap fills the hand less, the wide one more. Your own hand and your riding habits decide which one works for you. Neither the width in millimetres nor the length per size is given by Dy'on for this item.
The collection name deserves a note of its own. Dy'on uses two names for one and the same line, US Collection in the article codes and Hunter Collection in its own texts. If you search for one and come across the other, it is the same thing. Which type of leather this line is built from is not given by Dy'on, and the description European cowhide leather with brass buckles and cream-coloured thread belongs to the Dy'on Collection, which is a different line.
Dy'on keeps what is and is not on this rein fairly brief. The wider 5/8" version from the same collection is explicitly given Dy'on stoppers in the official description, whereas for this narrow item nothing is said about that, nor about whether it has leather rein stops. That is not a small detail, because the rein stops partly determine which discipline a rein is recorded for. Anyone who wants rein stops is better off choosing an item whose name mentions them.
As far as the rules go, the strap itself raises few questions: no set of rules lays down any width, thickness or grip standard for reins, and rubber is listed as permitted in dressage, in eventing and in show jumping alike. More important is knowing which rules apply to you. International tack and equipment requirements do not simply apply at national competitions: in Belgium those are the rules of your own federation, and they can differ. Reins with rein stops, for one, are not listed as permitted for dressage, while Paardensport Vlaanderen expressly allows martingale stops for provincial dressage tests. If you are unsure, put the question to your federation or the organiser before you enter.
At Maddelin this model is offered in Cob and in Full, in Black and in Brown.
